ARTIST BIO
Tristan Ahtone is a member of the Kiowa Tribe of Oklahoma. His belief in the fundamental role of the arts, and education in the revitalization of culture, heritage and wellness has led him to work with Native and non-native elders, leaders, educators, artists and youth. Recognizing the need for authentic Native voice in media, Ahtone volunteered his time as Creator, Producer and Host of First Nations Radio in 2002, as well as Creative Consultant for ABC Houston. Most recently he has helped to create and produce Red Light Radio in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Ahtone has been the editor and web designer of the IAIA student newspaper, The Chronicle, has won Best of Show and Peoples Choice awards at the 2004 AIHEC student competition, and has had his artwork showcased as centerfold for THE Magazine. As a writer, Ahtone's words have been published and featured internationally in print, radio and internet, and his dramatic writing has been made into a short film as well as performed on the stage.
Tristan holds a BFA in Creative Writing from the Institute of American Indian Arts, with the hopes of slumming it for a few years on the minimum wage circuit before becoming a teacher at a swanky school or waiter at a swanky restaurant. His most recent developments can be viewed at www.cowboykiller.com and if you see him on the street and say the words "I fear nothing!" he will give you a free sticker. Limit one per customer...
