ARTIST BIO

Jules Obomsawin is a Wolf Clan member of the Oneida Indian Nation, and is the Beaver Creek master craftsman and owner. As a little boy growing up first on the Onondaga Indian Reservation, then on the Oneida Indian Territory, one of Jules' favorite toys was the Lincoln logs with which he spent hours creating different types of houses. The fascination with log construction never left, and he and his young wife Robbin built their first home out of large Adirondack pine logs in 1978. In love with log building as well as the home itself, they created their Beaver Creek log building company in 1979. Jules' natural talent and skill in handcrafting was perfected at the most well known schools of log construction in North America- the Pat Wolfe School of Log Building and the Allen Mackie School of Log Building.

Jules' wife Robbin is equally as telented as Beaver Creek's construction manager and general contractor. Robbin has served two consecutive terms as vice-president of the American Log Builders Association, and authored six books on handcrafted log home design.

In addition to designing, creating and advising on log home construction, Jules and Robbin offer designer stock plans and custom design services for anyone interested in constructing their own log homes.

Beaver Creek Log Homes has been courted by celebrities, theme parks, resorts and governments to design and build them custom log structures. A highlight of Jules' career was to build the Shako:wi Cultural Center and Museum for his own people - the Oneida Indian Nation of New York.

ARTIST STATEMENT

As an Oneida (Iroquois) person, I have always appreciated the way our people worked with the land and used the natural environment to create a home. Log building allows me to create a modern structure while implementing the values I was taught as a child. One of the greatest values was to respect and preserve the natural gifts that the Creator gave us. I was also taught that I should do my very best in anything that I endeavor.

Beaver Creek strives for excellence - we go far beyond the average handcrafted log home. Quality materials, experienced craftsmen, and attention to detail in the design process are our principles for building a log home. We use natural wood and always hand-peel our logs. We often use a lamb's wool for insulation to keep the structure as natural as possible. A method called over-scribing ensures that our logs fit snuggly on to one other and eliminates the need for conventional nails. My wife and I attend log building conventions regularly (and often give presentations) and keep up on all the newest technologies so as to ensure the very best to our clients of both new and old forms of handcrafted technologies.

We also feel strongly that we have developed the best, most detailed, designer stock plans for handcrafted log building available on the market. We have put years of work and thought into each individual construction drawing.
