ARTIST BIO

As an assistant director, Strassberger has worked with the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, Teatro la Fenice in Venice and the Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe. In the USA, he has worked for the Houston Grand Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre, Opera Colorado and the among others. He is also a frequent collaborator with stage director James Robinson, having been responsible recently for remounting his productions of LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR for the Canadian Opera Company and GIULIO CESARE for the Utah Opera.

For the International Institute of Vocal Arts in Chiari, Italy, Strassberger has directed and designed IL TABARRO and GIULIO CESARE. This past summer, he designed productions of SUOR ANGELICA and GIANNI SCHICCHI for the Opera Theatre of Lucca. Also in Italy, he completed the Corso di Specializzazione per Scenografi Realizzatori at Teatro alla Scala in Milan in 2001, supported by a Fulbright Fellowship.

He has designed the scenery for THE TURN OF THE SCREW (University of Colorado), CHESS (Lyric Theatre of Oklahoma), DON GIOVANNI, LA BOHEME (Opera Theater of Philadelphia), LE NOZZE DI FIGARO (Springfield Regional Opera), L'INCORONAZIONE DI POPPEA and VENUS and ADONIS (Bloomington Early Music Festival). In addition, he designed the scenery for the New York City premiere of Hans Krasa’s BRUNDIBAR at the historic Henry Street Playhouse.

He received a full-scholarship to attend the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in 1998. He currently resides in New York City.
